Black Empowerment 2008 - Increasing Quality of Community
13.51 // 0 komentar // Richard Max // Category: African , Black , black empowerment 2008 increasing quality community , business , entrepreneurship , wealth //Africans in America were attacked by the deplorable conditions, such as, the minimum amount of wealth, the highest unemployment, lowest income, highest crime rate, the fastest rate of mortality. These conditions, according to sociologists, the results of poor economic development. This article will discuss alternative approaches to community development by establishing Black Black Company.
PROBLEM
Our research on the deplorable conditions faced by the Black masses resulted in the discovery of the double problem:
the unequal distribution of wealth
about inappropriate behaviors
Unequal distribution of wealthWe must realize that the wealth of money you will get the ownership of property - real estate, stocks and bonds, or a job. Your money and still receive all the while you own the property. On the other hand, income is money earned by selling their work. problem with an income if you do not work, the money stops. Black Americans have an abundance of income (about $ 700 billion) and the minimum wealth.
wealth gap is widening between the White mainstream society and black America. According to the report "The State of the Dream 2004" United for a Fair Economy, African Americans were 13% of the population in 2001, but is owned by only 3% (including home equity) of the median family wealth. If adjusted for 2001 dollars, that means $ 121,000 for white households and $ 19,000 for Black households. Furthermore, it will take until 2099 (98 years) and parity.
Why is the accumulation of wealth so important? Wealth accumulation is important because it determines an ethnic group of social acceptance, access to functional schools, the number of competing undertakings, the equality of citizens, essential health care, personal comfort and the length and quality of life.
Inappropriate behaviors (IBP)
Unequal distribution of wealthnot entirely to blame for Black America's lowly economic status and associated quality of life. Another main cause of the Anderson (2001) calls Inappropriate behaviors (IBP) (Actions that result in blacks participating in their own subjugation and exploitation). [1] Inappropriate behavior patterns arising from the social condition of slavery. Some say IBP results from post-traumatic slavery disorder.
Dr. Kenneth P. Clark, the monumental work he says:
"To fully understand the size of our current problems, we need to reopen the books on the events of slavery. Our goal should not be crying tears of stagnant for the past, or to rekindle old hatreds of the past injustices. Instead, we should seek to enlighten our path today, a better understanding of how and where the lights were turned out yesterday.
We should also realize that slavery should be viewed as a starting point for understanding the "Afro-American psyche, and not as an end point.
Thus, the study of Afro-American psyche should include psycho-history, but it should not only be concerned with events in the past. "[2]
As a result, slavery was born IBP device that weakens the competitive impulse in African-Americans. Competitiveness declines to the point where we make excuses to justify behavior outside rather than join with members of his group to compete against outsiders.
Moreover, inappropriate behavior patterns of whites and others to learn how to treat us. If you want to be respected, then we must change what we are teaching our competitors.
destructive IBP Examples are:
the Division of Community
of collusion with the competition
seeking approval of whites
White on Ice is colder
the attitude to work
the relationship to material objects
community division
most damaging misconduct faced by African-Americans is the Community Division. Rob lord it fosters among the slaves in order to diffuse any unification effort. Rob makers knew that fragmented the community will be easy prey for continued control. All kinds of devices to prevent the division of slaves from coming together.
main separation between house and field workers. House workers saw themselves as privileged. They had less physical work, wore better clothes, ate better and took care of personal needs of the lord and his family.
Just to be physically closer to the house of a slave master gave a sense of superiority over his fellow field slaves.
slave master used his house slaves as a buffer zone against the field slaves. He encouraged them to feel superior, to be faithful to its cause and take his side in any dispute. Because of social conditioning, the slave master got some slaves that helps identify with him completely.
Community Division in black community continues to this day. Instead of the house in relation to the field we have, the establishment, grassroots, college-educated, not college educated, Christians, Muslims, Baptists, Methodists, fraternity, sorority, school, white collar, blue collar, Republicans, Democrats, neighborhoods and hundreds of other grounds for division. The origin of these divisions come from the same source as it did 400 years ago --- outsider who profit from the separation.
Black Americans, just as we did 400 years ago, to spend more time arguing and justifying the separate goals, but we are working on common goals. Bondage device psyched us out to feel our separate problems are more important than our common problems.
colluding with the competition
History teaches us that the coalition is usually done at the expense of the majority of grassroots Black. This type of inappropriate behavior occurs when Blacks partner with other ethnic groups.
This is a problem because so many members of the Black establishment [8] to use it. Coalescing encourages Blacks to work with groups that have already been articulated goals, but to organize our own goals. Black participation adds credibility and strength to sexual orientation, ethnic, class, gender, disability, and Spanish-speaking groups, some of which are openly competing with us for wealth and power, and openly opposed to black gains.
in league competition with African Americans, losing by default due to the inappropriate behavior of black leaders who seek cross-group alliances, White approval, and corporate dollars at the expense of their people. In addition, if funds are available, trickle-down theory comes into force, and usually will leave residues of sexual orientation, gender, ethnic, religious, disability and Spanish-speaking language groups get what they want or need.
be a good Negro
Bondage device produces inappropriate behavior that stems from an old Southern racial or social etiquette. This happens when the Blacks, especially from South and Midwest, to avoid situations that make them free, independent and determining their own destiny.
Good Negro or "safe" African-American White seeks approval. They are perfectly happy to go to work or to church, watch TV and then go to bed. To them, everything that happens to blacks in the community or anywhere else is not their concern. Well blacks want to appear happy, content, compromising and non-competitive. Those who behave in this way, nor speak, nor to talk about Black issues, nor will they defend themselves against injustice Black.
white ice is colder
Another type of inappropriate behavior which is manifested by social conditioning is the belief that white ice is colder. African-Americans are conditioned schools, religion and all mainstream social institutions believe that whites are inherently superior. As a result, the superior quality of the white man's ice is still commonly accepted term in the black community. Anderson refers to an incident where he witnessed the behavior:
"with a friend Standing in front of his building in Tallahassee, Florida, I saw a black person to drive to the Black-owned shops. He came out of the car and went to the ice machine. He picked up a few bags of ice, examine them, put them back in the ice machine, and then walked across the street at the White-owned liquor store. there he went to the ice and pulled out two bags of ice. He examines them, and then went to a drive-through window to pay for them.
My friend and I were amazed at the behavior that we asked him why he turned down the ice on the Black trade, but he bought an identical brand of white-owned shops. He said: 'I do not like Brown led. It was too drunk. Jax Liquor ice is better. "That day, I learned that not only is the white ice cooler, but apparently 'smooth' to at least one black man. "[9]
social conditioning is deeply rooted planted inappropriate behavior in the psyche of Black Americans. In this case, thinking, if white people to touch, to do it, sell it, or talk about it then it is acceptable to Blacks.
attitude to work
often seen inappropriate behavior passed Blacks from social conditioning their attitude towards work. Slavery is forced labor. It was the daily work, beginning in early childhood until death or total disability. For a slave, work is not given to their needs. Instead, he has worked, often under threat of torture or death, making a profit for the slave master. good crop did not improve your life or community, it only improved lives and communities slave master
.work, as well as any activity that bears no benefit to the perpetrator, he was hated. Viewed as a form of punishment, and as every sentence, they are punished by contempt. Moreover, the work was identified with slavery. Even today, ebonics is related to work as a "slave".
enslavement meant to work and freedom meant avoiding work. Work is viewed as an activity of the pride-less loser. Today, 144 years removed from slavery, it is difficult for many blacks to display the award for sustainable long-term work as an appropriate erase the stigma of suffering. Many of us will begin to work, because it is easier to work for someone else and get a regular paycheck, and leisure-emancipation Friday night through Monday morning.
attitude towards material things
Allowing slaveown nothing or very little social conditioning that spawned worries attitude towards material things. Slave masters owned property and the finer material things, such as clothing, jewelry, fine house, beautiful landscaping, etc. Accordingly, in the same way as the hated and despised the slave is his master, he is resented and envied master land. These properties were associated with freedom and power to direct one's life, family and economy.
Today, African Americans are mixed inappropriate behavior toward material things and property. On the one hand, there is anger assets and unconscious delight in vandalism and misuse of assets seen as belonging to "master". This resentment finds expression in a high rate of destruction and defacement of public housing and rents.
On the other hand, black Americans have an unnatural attraction to material things. During slavery, who wore "masses" old hat, or "Mrs." old dress became a symbol of pride and status.
slave could play at that weight or lady for a few moments. Kenneth Stamp (1956) vividly illustrates this idea:
"elegantly dressed slaves, who promenaded the streets of the southern town and cities on Sunday, the men in fine linen, bright waiscoasts, women in full skirts and silk dresses, usually a servant of the rich plant and locals. butlers, coachmen, maids and valets has to uphold the reputation of the White family. "[10].
Such experience with property and material things they have left a legacy that has been influential in our lives today. We waste huge amounts of money on items not appreciate the value such as electronic gizmos, flashy clothes, expensive rims, expensive cars, jewelry and expensive drinks. Because we want to look like a slave master, we consistently drain our budgets and do not use our money to accumulate wealth.
Although given the attitudes that come from social conditioning, keep in mind that the resulting predisposition are only one aspect in determining our behavior. Western materialism, imperialism and aggression also have an impact on African-American psyche. The bottom line is that we should be aware that the qualities within us from our past to control our behavior so we do not understand.
what we do and why it does not work
In our quest for empowerment, we are a group out of sync with the times. Instead of working on the parity of wealth, many of us are chasing the harmful myths and unattainable dream. This chapter discusses some of our myths and dreams:
of integration
of Diversity
policy
About Education
on Religion
Integration
"Integration never dream come true for black Americans. If we follow that dream to have 60-did not realize that the integration of the group lost all self-determination the prerogative, since the dominant society has to process and approve all the goals and plans.
Once blacks began to integrate, we left our businesses, schools and communities, we have also lost their disposable income, which was redistributed to the White communities, and we even lost our middle class Black role models who have followed whites to the suburbs. Loss of income Black and role models left the Black communities across the nation impoverished and without guidance.
And, worst of all, the integration of black people have to shape your goals, values and behavior over White America's standards, even though White 'approval is unlikely to reap any financial or political gains for black people. "[11]
Variety
Another Black elusive American dream is cultural diversity. Cultural diversity can lead to Inappropriate behavior pattern of collusion with the competition. These co-ops and weakens Black claims to national attention. In addition, it creates ethic that equates all ethnic groups dispute with those blacks as she belittles and neutralize our efforts to address the unique concerns.
For other ethnic groups in cultural diversity has its advantages. The main street in every city have its stake in Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, French, Ethiopian and Thai restaurants. culture of these groups will remain intact if you decide to assimilate into mainstream culture. At the same time, they can set up other businesses, communities and their economies.
On the other hand, African Americans have recognized the advantage of our very own culture. Instead, Black culture is a fragmented series of African heritage, the "soul", and Black History. This mish-mash of cultures degraded during assimilation into mainstream culture. If all things are equal cultural diversity can be an advantage for us, but they are not.
Politics
"politics without economics is a symbol without substance." - Minister Louis Farrakhan
mit policy has kept black Americans occupied since the end of slavery. We know that political power is important because politics decides who is to have what they used to in life. However, those who want it can get and use it if they have economic power, as well.
We can not allow our brothers and sisters forget the words of Marcus Garvey, who said:
"the most important areas to conduct independent efforts of [the] economy. Once people have established a firm industrial foundation they turn to politics ... but not the first ... in politics, because he can not exist without the former." [12]
ThenIn addition, the basic rule of any policy is the quid pro quo ---. This means, "If you scratch my back, then I'll scratch yours". After investing time, energy and resources in support of a political issue, candidate or political party, then expect compensation in the same way.
This rule policy applies to all in America, except for African-Americans. Black Americans traditionally support White candidates and their political parties in the sense of obligation and loyalty. As a result, the Black vote is taken for granted. No time in history, when black Americans were compensated on the basis of quid pro quo for political contributions are made.
Unfortunately, the political landscape for black Americans worse. We are not looking for a quid pro quo relationship. Demanding a quid pro quo relationship with their elected politicians allowed Cuban refugees to be economically and politically subordinate to surpass blacks in Miami, Florida within a decade.
Thus, Black political power to become an effective strategy for obtaining vitally needed resources to black communities. Although the rule of politics is "something for something" black Americans have never been particularly rewarded for their great support for a candidate for public office. Back officials are exciting about using the powers of his office specifically addresses the needs of black communities because they are concerned about the generation of White reaction. It is easier for them to propose or support programs that clearly are designed to help everyone not just blacks. For his political support, blacks have always been denied a quid pro quo, or something in exchange for their votes. [13]
Education
"Education without their own knowledge of the workout and no one benefits from training, but the coach." - Ni'am Akbar
Some blacks continue the myth of education. They hope that if they or their children get enough education can overcome the wealth of difference in America. Let's look at a few facts about education.
architect of common school system, Horace Mann School as an institution designed for whites, as described public education as "the great equalizer. " He believed that blacks attend schools in less fortunate.
years later, African Americans gained access to public schools and whites treated us terribly. Moreover, as the saying goes: "If they do not treat you right, then they will not teach you in law." America's school system spouted racist and collaborated with the social institutions for the maintenance of structural inequalities that advance the life chances of Black children. Even today, public school is committed to providing black children with a truly quality education instead of social scientists and politicians have spent years charging blacks with lower intelligence and poor educational values.
more education have more wealth you should get, but there is practically no connection between the Black Peoples level of wealth and educational experience. During the years 1865 to 1895, Blacks reduce illiteracy rate by 50% (from 98% to 48%). After the civil war nearly 25 million immigrants came from Europe, with approximately the same as illiteracy and blacks. Over the next 30 years, blacks reduced their illiteracy rate twice as fast as European immigrants did. In contrast, as Europeans immigrants achieve educationally, they moved to wealth, income, political empowerment, social acceptance and business ownership. Blacks began at the bottom and are still at the bottom of today. There was no direct correlation between the stunning black educational achievement and benefits.
reason for the freezing of upward mobility is not difficult to understand. Public education is predominantly Euro-centric with little or no information about African-Americans. As Akbar (1998) points out, education is no self-knowledge is just training, and people who are trained can only serve those educated people who were their coaches. [14]
Census data indicated, only 1950-by the White high school graduate earned more than Black college graduate. The black man earned only 54 cents for every dollar earned white person. In mid-1970-Black, earned income has gone as high as 67 cents for every dollar white men earn. It fell back down to 56 cents for every dollar white men earned in 1980. Black Americans are not wrong for wanting to education, and we just have to realize that education alone is not enough
.Anderson (2001) concludes the section on education with the following paragraph:
"Wealth inequality and other remains primarily due to planned inferior education provided to blacks was never designed to give them a countervailing power to offset the racism that will be exposed to mainstream society." [15]
Religion
Eurocentric interpretation of the Bible created the religious myths that distort Black empowerment. Religion was one of the first tools used by slave masters in bondage device. They hoped to encourage slaves to Christianity would be "Christ-like" obedient, to justify their enslavement and control hearts and minds of black slaves in general.
whites produced self-serving explanations in the Bible, saying Blacks are cursed people, destined to be slaves to whites (the curse of Ham). They tried to focus on the aspirations of Black "another world", to the extent that some blacks like they were dead. When Black preachers were allowed to preach to blacks, they were urged to learn that:
first When the Bible is the "slave and master, " it was referring to the black race and white masters here on earth.
second Blacks are supposed to be hard-working, reliable, obedient and humble
third Blacks to accept their lot in life, delay the worldly pleasures, and look forward to their pie in the sky after death.
White seminary school approved black ministers who are encouraged to collude Blacks in their subjugation and exploitation.
These religious dogmas persist in black churches today, causing many to accept or ignore the Black injustice.
come out of the box
If African-Americans could not muster mainstream resources through integration, diversity, politics, education and / or religion after 400 years, we have to do the next best thing --- the creation of wealth outside the mainstream in our Black community.
If you seriously want to improve our condition, we must work together to strengthen our collective economic position. The cooperation means that the increase in the quality of the community becomes the motive of some people instead of increasing profits. Increased income of individuals will come from more efficient and effective operation of productive, literate, healthy and happy black people in the community.
This can be achieved:
first De-programming our Bondage Conditioning and removing inappropriate behavior Patterns
second Replacement of our not-for-another mindset to not-for-yourself mindset
third Assessment of our resources
4th Using what we found to establish programs and procedures that benefit our community.
5th Using Internet technology (Web, e-mail, radio and TV) to implement and market the program
De-Programming Our bondage device
is through awareness that the group knows who they are, why and how to behave. In addition, with a consciousness comes the culture, attitudes comes from the culture, attitudes comes from feelings and emotions come out of the action. We can reverse-engineer the device harmful effects of slavery to reawaken our consciousness in a new context. . . . Maaf healing.
Maafa the Swahili word for the Holocaust. Maaf Healing is a form of post-traumatic slavery therapy that moves our level of awareness of self-destructive effects of slavery Conditioning and inappropriate behavior patterns for specific behaviors. This is achieved by going back to go ahead and delete the negative influence of subconscious mind and replace them with positive black consciousness principle (the wisdom of learning). Much the same way in Neuro Linguistic Programming terms smoker to become a nonsmoker.
Study group explores the glorious civilization of our ancestors is a great way to implement the Maafa healing. Sessions will raise our awareness of our emancipation from alien inspired dungeon of false beliefs on others, world and ourselves. Moreover, they will provide us with a new set of historically accurate facts, concepts, theories, and perspectives about themselves, others, about the world based on our African cultural and intellectual heritage.
Without some form of healingmaaf, the majority of Africans in America are unaware of: the limited captive device to confusion, seeking to identify and unattainable goals. Most significantly, the unconscious mind leaves us can not use the melanin in our bodies to adjust to spiritually empowering thoughts.
Changing Our By-the-second thinking with up-to-self reflection
According to Anderson (1994), Black Americans spend 95% of their annual disposable income from businesses located in other communities.
than five percent, which remains in the black community, three percent was spent with non-Black owned businesses. It is difficult, if not impossible for the Black community to maintain a reasonable quality of life and be economically competitive, when only two percent of their annual income available to remain within the Black community. [16]
Others have lived luxuriously (improving their schools, building new businesses, getting essential health care and generally improve the length and quality of life) of our generous, not-for-other spending habits.
With our enlightened cultural psyche, it is time for us to stop going along to get along and not-for-itself. Not-for-yourself means giving yourself. . . . Giving of self love and love to race. As a result, cooperation with more encouragement, support and provision and demand for Black is possible.
evaluating our resources
wealth derived from ownership and control over natural, manufactured or human capital resources:
first Natural (land, water, minerals and precious metals)
second Revision (machines, factories, consumer items, public improvements, stocks and bonds)
third Human capital (skilled, literate, labor)
We have to control what resources we can produce wealth in the black community. Most African-Americans own or control several important assets - we have a job. There is no wealth of potential in the job. He is the owner and producer of the work that is a wealth of resources.
It is therefore necessary to link with our brothers and sisters around the world who own and control land, such as in Africa and the Caribbean. These links may take the forms for the customer, raw material suppliers and manufacturers.
resource options available in the United States, control over human capital is the most practical for our African-Americans. Astute management of human capital leads to successful companies and sustainable way to accumulate wealth. Although most at risk, the wealth generated from business ownership can be acquired and redistributed many times faster than from natural sources or processes.
Use what you find to establish programs and procedures that benefit our community
programs are defined goals and strategies is carried out in accordance with these objectives.
our empowerment goals should be based on the unmet needs of the community. After the use of community representatives on these ideas that valid targets, make a list of potential individuals and organizations to help meet the goals.
Further, the team should make a list of resources (people, equipment, supplies, and information) available to those on the list. Further, the idea of the process should be used to deal with situations, saying that what we have can be used to achieve our goals. These scenarios are called strategies. Availability of resources should be used to frame the strategy needed to achieve the above goals.
any strategies outlined should be broken down into doable tasks, persons responsible, due dates and costs. Last but not least, strong management is required to monitor the program and make sure tasks are done in a timely manner.
mass of Black folk in the community are the masses, not enough, the unemployed and / or income challenged. Unlike the foundation class (and the leader's social status quo, businesses and religious institutions), they are not experienced in accounting, marketing and business elements of economic development. Therefore, there is a need for a community of like-minded training. gluing together the company (both virtual and "brick and mortar"), community activist, philanthropist and business services related business development with community development and meet the needs of the masses Black entrepreneurs. This approach is a viable initiative to revitalize the urban Black community.
According to article, community entrepreneurship, the author Michael H. Shuman, Going Local: Creating self-reliant communities in a global age:
"First, the best community-minded training programs teach their contractors meet unmet local needs, by definition, will be better for the inner city rather than export yo-yos. One such program is the Urban Seed (Sustainable Economic and Environmental Development) , headquartered in Alameda, California, which encourages its practitioners to focus on micro enterprises that grow organic food and generate renewable energy. Another Detroit Farmers Cooperative, which operates seven community gardens and five neighborhood on the market, run all seven young African Americans, 14 to 16 years. In addition, hope takes root in Detroit program employs the homeless to grow food for local food programs for the poor. "
grassroots entrepreneurs will need business services. These services include business coaching, accounting, legal services, loan packaging, insurance, web development, graphic design, clean credit, and merchant card services.
Before these services provide a grassroots entrepreneur, he or need to join a virtual business incubator. These incubators are powered Internet (web, radio and TV) cooperatives designed to consolidate incoming entrepreneurs to improve economic status. The improvement comes from the efficiency of the collective, such as cooperative buying, make arrangements, business-to-business transactions, bartering, mentor / protege relationship and easy access to network services business.
incubator activities will be designed to create internal cash flow and avoid colluding with the competition. In addition, each member of the cooperative business finds business coach for strength / weakness and professional guidance offered.
Marketing Program
grassroots entrepreneurs will be attracted to the program an attractive marketing strategy:
1.poruku that moves the masses entrepreneur from idea to revenue in a way that he or she can relate.
second Free to low-cost services and products.
3.Osjećaj community arising from the shared knowledge, resources, and pulling together to increase competitiveness.
4.raspored special business building events and activities such as guest speakers, business studies, workshops and business education programs offered at conveniently located community spaces.
5th Informative articles periodically distributed to educate business owners on wealth creation strategies and Recycling Black Dollars
6th exciting Internet presence that simplifies business processes, communications, market coverage, event, business news, and tools.
CONCLUSION
initiatives to be modeled out of the box approach will be a valuable asset in strengthening the Black community.
